There has recently been much disscusion in the media regarding food miles, and the desireability of reducing them, due to the fuel used in transport.

Very few seem to consider beer miles though, which are arguably more important considering the weight and bulk of beer.
I know of many who consider themselves to be green, yet drink Scotish beer in the south of England, or London pride in Cornwall.

I would urge the drinking of loccaly produced beer, as far as possible.

What about red wine miles - I don't think there are any red wine producers in the North West of England.  Confused

Red wine miles are indeed a problem, though fortunatly the weight and bulk are less.
Unless we are going to go without red wine imports appear unavoidable, better to drink French red than Australian, perhaps though in order to reduce transport.

It is possible to produce red wine in the uk, though uneconomic as the climate is not hot enough yet!

Transport costs could be reduced by importing grape juice concentrate, and making the wine over here, this has been done in past and the so-called wine had a very poor reputation.

Hey, didn't you make some wine last year?  Was it red or white? Smile

I actually made a single bottle of red wine from the grapes off my grape vine. It was deeeelicious!!

But it didn't last very long!!  Wink

Going to have another go this year I think, maybe I will chuck some other berries or apples or something in with the grapes, and some honey which I can get from a work colleague who keeps bees, and make a kind of fruit mead wine thingy.
